Mongolia – the weekend

I visited the National History Museum of Mongolia which was very nice. A cute little kid kept coming up to me to say something (I don’t speak Mongolian) and grab my leg. The problem with the weekend has been that although I am very tired from a busy week last week I had much work to do. As a result I am still tired and now facing another long week.

I have been in UB for one week. I took some time to wander around a bit. I didn’t venture far because its hot but I took a few more pictures.

Mongolia – still early days

Today was another busy day of meetings. We had the first rain since I arrived. I read in the UB Post, an English newspaper here (one of two such papers I understand) that rain last Thursday and Friday caused significant damage and loss of life. The rain today lasted for an hour or so and left the roads VERY wet. At least it settled the dust – its very dusty here. I did manage to take a couple of photos:

Mongolia – Day two

Amazingly I am only a little jet-lagged – a comfy bed and air-conditioning does wonders. Day two was fairly similar to day one. I did some walking around just like yesterday. Today we visited some of the shops (there will have to be some souvenir shopping done later) and the Fine Art Museum of Zanabazar, which was very good. Lots of Buddhas and affiliated images. Afterwards, we stopped into Cafe Amsterdam for a cool, refreshing drink – Guava juice. The afternoon as spent working to prepare for the busy week ahead. I have not had a chance yet to smell the Mongolia BBQ.

Arrived in UB, Mongolia

I arrived in Ulaanbaatar this morning and have settled into my hotel. Due to jetlag and the heat I haven’t done much. I had a nap in the morning before taking a walk around Sukhbaatar Square and surrounding streets in the afternoon. I took a couple of photos but it was too glary to clearly see what I was taking a photo of. Though, its much better than the ‘heavy rain shower’ I was expecting to arrive to. I was told it rained yesterday and probably more to come. I am here for work for two weeks.

Death Note

I just finished reading the final volume of Deathnote. This AWESOME 12 volume series follows Light Yagami who finds a Deathnote. The Deathnote comes from the realm of the Shinigami or death gods.Ryuk, a shinigami drops his Deathnote on earth and so the story begins. But the most important personal experience for me was discovering that Ryuk, the death god possesses many characteristics which I find appealing. He’s tall and slim and has cool sense of fashion – he has a black punk look with spikey hair that totally suits him. He is always smiling and laughing and enjoys the moment. He’s not afraid to ask questions when he doesn’t understand something. And he loves apples, which is not only healthy but cool. Aside from the whole death god thing, he’s totally cool.

There is also a movie and sequel – I saw the fist one but not the second movie. The first movie was very good but obviously varied from the book due to time constraints or other artist reason. And the anime series, which I now plan to watch as well.
